For Buyers — Mills & Traders
Waste paper to ISRI PS-2013 specifications and prime pulp quoted by grade and mill, loaded at every major North American port. Tolerances are stated on the offer, not after the container is opened.
01 — Waste Paper
Every offer states the grade, the prohibitive material limit and the combined outthrows-plus-prohibitives limit. Grades outside this list are available on request.
| Grade | ISRI No. | Description | Prohibitives | Outthrows + prohibitives |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| OCC | #11 | Corrugated containers with liners of test liner or kraft. | 1% | 5% |
| DSOCC | #12 | Double-sorted corrugated from supermarket, industrial or commercial sources, sorted free of boxboard, off-shore corrugated, plastic and wax. | 0.5% | 2% |
| SOP | #37 | Office-generated paper, primarily groundwood-free white and coloured, free of unbleached fibre. May carry a small percentage of computer printout and facsimile paper. | 1% | 5% |
| SWL | #40 | Uncoated white groundwood-free ledger, bond and writing papers — sheets, shavings, guillotined books and cuttings. | 0.5% | 2% |
| Residential Mixed Paper | #1 | Mixed qualities from residential and multi-material collection programmes, not limited as to fibre type. | 2% | 5% |
| Soft Mixed Paper | #2 | Clean, sorted mixture of various qualities, not limited as to fibre type. | 1% | 5% |
| Hard Mixed Paper | #3 | Clean, sorted mixture containing less than 10% groundwood. | 0.5% | 3% |
Tolerances shown are the ISRI PS-2013 limits for each grade. Tighter limits can be agreed in writing before booking. Other grades available on request.
02 — Prime Pulp
Named-mill basis, per metric ton. Availability and lead time depend on the mill and the loading port.
| Grade | Also known as | Typical application |
|---|---|---|
| BSKP | NBSK · softwood bleached kraft · NBKP (JP) | Strength furnish for packaging, tissue and printing papers |
| BHKP | BEK · hardwood bleached kraft · LBKP (JP) | Bulk, formation and smoothness in printing, writing and tissue |
| UKP | Unbleached kraft pulp | Sack kraft, liner and industrial grades |
| BCTMP | Bleached chemi-thermomechanical pulp | Bulk and opacity in board and tissue |
| Fluff Pulp | Fluff | Absorbent cores for hygiene products |
| Dissolving Pulp | Dissolving grade cellulose | Viscose and specialty cellulose derivatives |
NBKP and LBKP are the Japanese market terms for BSKP and BHKP respectively. Either nomenclature is fine on an inquiry.
03 — Stock Lot & Off Grade
Neither can be quoted from a grade table. Both are offered lot by lot, with the actual condition stated before any booking.
Surplus and discontinued lots from mills, converters and printers across North America. Irregular by nature: weights, reel or sheet sizes and packing are confirmed lot by lot, and photographs are sent with the offer. Volumes range from a single container upward.
Pulp and paper that falls outside prime tolerances but remains usable furnish — moisture, shade, basis weight or wrapper damage. The defect is stated openly on the offer, together with the reason the mill rejected it. Priced against the prime grade it deviates from.
04 — Shipping & terms
Not the port closest to us. That is usually what decides whether a lot works on price.

05 — Process
Specifications, tolerances and packing are agreed in writing at step 02, before any booking is made.
06 — Before you write
With these six, we can come back with a firm position rather than a request for more information.
ISRI grade number or pulp grade. If you are unsure, describe the furnish you need.
In metric tons, and whether it is a spot lot or a repeating position.
Discharge port and country.
FOB, CIF or CFR.
Bale size or wrapping conditions, if your mill has a standard.
Company name, country and the person handling the account.
Contact
That is enough to come back to you with a firm position. Inquiries are handled by the same desk that books the container.
